Adult Learning Opportunities
A walk to the park and back.
A bike ride on the bike path.
Doing
it once or finding a friend who will encourage a mutually agreeable schedule.
Some of us already have a regular exercise program. Some of us would like to exercise, but for many good or not so good reasons don’t. Is now the time to find a St. Andrew’s friend who
will encourage you to get on some kind of regular exercise program?
Let’s have an exercise hour or two starting at St. Andrew’s
parking lot at 9:30 am on Saturday, May 17, 2008
What could happen?
Walkers
Group 1: People who want to go on a fairly
brisk walk perhaps around the quiet Old Orchard streets.
Group 2: Perhaps young children, parents, and slow walkers could walk
to Old Orchard or Fairview Park. They could spend some time chatting and watching the children on some park equipment, shoot
some basketballs, play some tennis, and get to know each other.
Bike riders: Ride to the closest section of the bike path
and end up at Riverview park – near the bottom of 25th street. Make the return trip on the same path or not depending on the
desire of the riders. Different groups could certainly choose different routes to begin with.
Chat and play a game of Backgammon
or …..
Some folks may just want to meet a friend and chat in the social room over a cup of coffee.
Bring a bottle of water if you plan
on participating in walking or bike riding.

One Thousand White Women: The Journals of May Dodd
Based on a true event
in 1854, a group of Cheyenne chiefs requested of the white authorities one thousand white women as brides for their young warriors.
The Cheyenne believed that a child belonged to the mother's tribe and saw this as way to peace and assimilation into the white
culture. But the peace conference fell apart and the proposal was never accepted. Fergus supposes what might have happened if
the proposal had been accepted in this fictional story of May Dodd, a woman from a prominent Chicago family who volunteers for
the program.
